| I understand why he did it; His son is in college and has no criminal record. |

Do you get a criminal record in the States if your dad fights in court against something that is "made a crime by Ashcroft" but that is not even mentioned anywhere else in the world.
C'mon, "Drugs Paraphenalia", that's the utter idiocy and anyone could have won such a case, specially because these "laws" where adobted while there was a whole industry doing this legally for decades all over the globe and NO ONE of the manifacturers have been informed officially about the fact that their busynesses became "criminal". They just got raided by surprise. Also I have not seen them raid "classic" pipe manufacturers. Discrimination on shape?
Boy, this really is a fine example of how little touch with reality some politicians have, in court this could have been set straight. _________________ █ Please read the Board Rules and Posting, and you

I believe that his son was in business with him and he did it to take the blame so his sons career wouldnt be damaged. _________________

Ok, Tommy Chong's business that he was arrested for was a "FAMILY BUSINESS" which his son and wife were both apart of. If Tommy chose to fight the decision in court, the D.A. said he would indict his wife and son as well.
Being that his son was in college and had a positive future ahead of him, Tommy chose not to include them in the hassle's of a court case, which could ruin his son's future if they eventually lost, which could have still happened. So to save them hassle, He took the full brunt of the laegal process.
I agree with and completely understand Tommy's decision as a Husband and Father to save his family from that. It does not matter what I think as a "Pot Head", fore Tommy has made the right decision for his family. As a parent, we must do everything we can to protect our children from harm. Our Duty as spouse, is to protect and shelter our loved ones......
Tommy DID THIS AND MORE (9 months in jail is not a walk in the park no matter who you are, for sure) for his family. That's LOVE.
My Two Pennies.....

OMG Ferre.. I cant believe you said that. My Brother, I usualy have great respect for your opinions... BUT....
He took the fall to keep his wife and son out of jail, and keep their lives from being messed up. I am so surprised you have said this that I cant fully express what I feel.
All I can say is that im truly, deeply shocked and saddened at your statments. The guy was placed in a bad situatuation, and did what he did to protect his family. I think he acted like a hero. I think any of us could only hope to have a Father or husband act the same for us.

Well, maybe I don't understand the situation and "justice" in America. I didn't know about his family, for one, and even then he was NOT guilthy and in my book you are not a hero at all if you do not defend your and yours rights and freedom against unjust and insane laws and plead guilthy.
He and his family were not guilthy of any crime in the first place but he let the US administration go on with their filthy and illegal activities and jail even more people. I do feel for his family but the dude did not realise he could have stopped them from putting all those other people in jail (he was not the only one and untill this day people get jailed because of this law).
He might have "saved" his family but he has done great damage to everyone in the industry including their families and because of him not defending himself he cleared the path for the administration to put many more people in jailes and they did.
Maybe we have a difference in culture anyway, I can't imagine any Dutch person doing what he did. No way ever! And our families stand behind us.
..and know what? I guess that is why we can live our lives here as we do, WITH our families. Cowardness doesn't help you get your rights and we are very aware of that here in our little country.
And Tommy Chong loves to come here btw, he told me himself years ago. he likes "our freedom".
Well, it doesn't come with being spineless. We too have to fight for it. _________________ █ Please read the Board Rules and Posting, and you
