A few clarification questions about roger's tincture recipe:
-does the heating in the eyedropper bottle method work as well as the leaving it in a mason jar method?
-how many grams of herb do i need and how finely ground should they be?
-what percentage of alcohol is reccomended? (i have 40% gin, will this work or do i need to go out and get 95% alcohol?)
-do i leave the herb in the bottle after heating and for how long?
-how many drops or dropperfulls are required for what level of effects?
-how should i take it? (ie. on the tongue, under the tongue, in a glass of 7-up with ice and honey?)
-how long will it last? (the tincture, not the effects)
thanks |

Unfortunately, a lot of your questions do not have definite answers. We all have different chemisties, we're using numerous strains of widely varying potency, and even the levels of cannabinoids needed/preffered can alos vary widely among members. There are guidlines, but that's all they can be.
I'm sure the tincture experts will give you a more detailed answer, but just to make sure you get a little information now....
If You have the opportunity, the best option is to start small and work your way up (this goes back to the many variables)
Typically, the idea behind a short-term alcohol based extract is to (violently) mix the herb and the alcohol, then remove the herb once the short time limit has been reached. This will serve to extract a high percentage of the active cannabinoids (compared to inactives such as sugars and clorophyll) while reducing the amount of undesrables that can disolve into the solvent (due to the short exposure and their relative insolubility).
Higher potency liqour will technically pick up more cannabinoids and less undesirables, but the exposure time is very short so the water will never dissolve as much garbage as it would in a longer extraction process (in short, don't use Puckers, but you won't need to scour chemical supply houses for ethanol either)
If I remember right, the recipe called for the removal of the bud. If you were to leave it in the bottle, you would begin to extract the junk that you'd like to leave behind.
Traditionally, sublingual tictures were held in the mouth to allow the actives to travel to the blood vessels of the tounge, anoyone here who Divinorum has a meaning for also knows that there are actives which will do nothing if swallowed. In this case, we're dealing with actives that will still be active in the stomache so either method would work, however I would imagine the sublingual technique to be faster and possibly more efficient. **DISCLAIMER** I haven't gotten around to making my own tincture yet.
As far as how long it will last, I think many people agree that they've never kept it around long enough to notice I'm not qualified to give a comparision to smoking, but just remember that it all depends on how much you normally like to use, I've read many times that ingesting is longer lasting and stronger than smoking but I've never personally tested it to a satifactory level so I think it would be best to wait for someone with more experience. _________________ The free exercise and enjoyment of religious profession and

Thanks
I actually got a very comprehensive reply from Roger himself
I don't think he'd mind me posting it here, so here it is:

Better, in my opinion. It's almost instant.
Aloha.

I put about one gram of premium buds, + or - , into
each one-ounce bottle. "There's a bud in every
bottle." :-} No need to grind it, just heat it
thoroughly until you can definitely taste the bud
through the liquor.

Almost any alcohol will work. If you like gin, fine.
(Maybe not beer.) :-} I've used 151 rum, Stolichnoya
vodka, Bailey's Irish Creme, tequilla, etc. The
all-time favorite is Grand Marnier (2 parts) with
Chambord (1 part). Serve it by the DROP. Seriously
amazing. Don't offer it to alcoholics, obviously.

Leave the bud inside for flavor and for show. It's
better than a worm in the tequilla!

It's almost homeopathic. Every drop works, to some
degree. Add drops as needed to see how small a dose
you need. I take a few drops throughout the day,
wherever I am. It goes anywhere and no one looks at
you. I probably take about twenty-five drops per day.
Little here - little there.

Right ON the tongue for the delicious flavor. One
drop at a time. :-}

I refill my one-ounce bottle about every week. I
'dose' people all over town as I go through my day.
Want the effects of a cannabis brownie? Take a
dropper-full, or two, and wait one hour.
All the best to you,
Roger
