I think that it's likely that plants helped to 'wake up' primitive man and then once awake they began to teach him wondrous things far beyond his capability to understand...

Great quote indeed, I had to type it from my copy of the High Times Encyclopedia of Recreational drugs, I bought it in 1978 but has been of great value for references and I can recommend anyone who is into entheogen research to get on the lookout for a copy.
