Just 2 weeks from today,July,4-9th,there's going to be a meeting in Rome
- the results of which will affect each of us.
The article which I've copied to my Senators and Representative (below)
clearly defines what may happen to our current rights to purchase
over-the-counter vitamins.
PLEASE MASS DISTRIBUTE AND COPY AND PASTE OR SEND
YOUR OWN LETTERSTO YOUR SENATORS AND REPRESENTATIVE.
Email your Senators from:
http://www.senate.gov/general/contact_information/senators_cfm.cfm
Email your Representative from:
http://www.house.gov/writerep/
Letter to my Senators & Representative:
As one of more than 48 million Americans
without health insurance, my health is in my hands.
For years I have taken vitamins to maintain my health.
There is
a movement afoot to mandate requirement of doctors'
prescriptions in order to purchase vitamins.
Without health insurance and without the ability to purchase
vitamins over the counter, the health of many millions
of Americans will be further compromised.
Please enlist the aid of your peers to intervene
on behalf of US citizens and instruct Ed Scarborough
to defend and uphold US law at Codex and to
REJECT the Codex Guidelines for Dietary Supplements
at the upcoming meeting in Rome during July 4-9, 2005,
As reference in this matter I am attaching the
following story:
http://www.newswithviews.com/guest_opinion/guest60.htm
KISS YOUR VITAMINS GOODBYE!
By Dr. Carolyn Dean
June 19, 2005
The U.S. Delegation to Codex has just issued a formal written
statement to the Codex Alimentarius Commission that the
United States, during the July 4-9, 2005,meeting in Rome,
will support compulsory rules created
by this international organization directly
Overruling U.S. Law regarding access to vitamins.
The U.S. law that is about to be vanquished is the
Dietary Supplement, Health and Education Act of 1994.
Codex is a venture between the United Nation’s
World Health Organization and Food and Agriculture
Organization.
(WHO/FAO) The World Trade Organization (WTO) has already stated
that it will enforce Codex “guidelines” as the world standard
for trade in dietary supplements. This will mean that
gradually,pill-by-pill, our access to the dietary supplements
we depend on will disappear.
For those not familiar with the Dietary Supplement Health and
Education Act of 1994, it was passed because 2.5 million ordinary
citizens wanted to make sure dietary supplements such as herbs,
vitamins, minerals and other food-based supplements
could stayon the over-the-counter market.
Movement to create this law, known as DSHEA, started when
a 1992 FDA task force published a report announcing the FDA’s desire
to remove these products from the shelves as they represented a
“Dis-Incentive for Patented Drug Research”.
Immediately following this announcement, millions of Americans
learned about how famed vitamin doctor, Jonathan Wright’s
patient-filled medical office was raided the same month
by nearly two-dozen gun-toting, flak-jacketed FDA agents
in the name of regulating supplements.
Battering down an unlocked office door, these agents,
backed by burly sheriff’s department deputies,
lined up staff and patients against the wall,
pulled IVs from patients arms in middle of treatments,
confiscated patient records,
took the hard drive from the office computer
all because Dr. Jonathan Wright was using nutritional supplements
to heal very sick people who could not get help
from standard allopathic medical care.
As the story developed, it turned out that this
Gestapo-style raid was standard operating procedure
for the FDA and as the general public became aware
of just how many - doctors’ offices,- manufacturing companies,
- distributors and health food stores
had been assaulted by similar raids,
the horror of all this forged a mighty Health Freedom Army
that resulted in unanimous passage of DSHEA.
The idea of the law was two-fold:
1. DSHEA was to make a clear distinction between FOOD,
which is considered generally safe and did not need to
have permission from the FDA to be allowed on the
market and DRUGS, which are generally toxic,
potentially deadly and in need of lengthy evaluation
before they were available to the public
under prescription from a doctor.
2. DSHEA provides the FDA with plenty of legal
authority to remove herbs or dietary supplements
from the market providing the agency has plenty
of REAL evidence of REAL harm to the public.
The FDA also has the authority to limit the amount of a supplement
to low levels IF the agency has plenty of REAL evidence
to prove higher levels ARE ACTUALLY dangerous.
The FDA and its Big Pharma backers have never liked DSHEA
because these products and the related natural healing arts
services often related to them are putting the allopathic
drug/surgical/chemical medical industry to shame.
In my book, Death by Modern Medicine,
using the allopathic medical industry’s own official reports,
I document how 784,000 people die every year in the American
medical system while following doctors’orders
in a highly-regulated allopathic system.
The proof that dietary supplements and the practitioners
who promote them are safe and work as expected is evidenced everywhere.
Studies conducted all over the world have shown that supplements
are actually saferthan food and there is simply no hard evidence
to showthere is ANY risk factor worthy of discussion,
much less needing universal “risk assessment”.
Yet, the U.S. Delegation, along with its Big Pharma backers
are bound and determined that Codex force “risk analysis assessments”
upon the American dietary supplement industry so they can bypass
the expressed will of the American people.
The REAL reason for promotion of
“risk assessment”is based on two agendas.
First, to be able to strip the over-the-counter marketplace
of everything but low quality, low dose-level products
that won’t do much to support or improve health.
Second, to set up the framework to allow Big Pharma to take over
thesupplement market as a new form of drugs where prices can be
jacked up outrageously and doled out by doctors for a fee.
UNDERSTAND THIS:
If you do not ACT NOW, you and everyone you love,
will be condemned to living under an international law
that denies your basic right to maintain your health.
WITHOUT HEALTH, YOU HAVE NO FREEDOM!
ACT NOW! http://www.friendsoffreedominternational.org

That's the problem with coach activism. In theory we should write letters, organize demonstrations, raise awareness and... you know do something about it.
Whatever will happen it won't bother me so much. I'll get my vitamins from the black market. More power to crime!!!! I think codex had this in mind all along. _________________

Vitamins to be Banned Worldwide...
Press Release - National Health Freedom Coalition: Codex Full Commission adopts Codex Guidelines for Vitamin and Mineral Food Supplements in final form July 4, 2005, Rome Italy. by Diane Miller JD.
Minutes ago the full Commission of Codex Alimentarius adopted in final form, the Codex Guidelines for Vitamin and Mineral Food Supplements. This adoption is the Step 8 adoption, the final stage of adoption for the international Codex guidelines. The Codex Vitamin and Mineral Food Supplements guidelines are now official and no longer in draft form.
The Commission, attended by over 85 of the 171 Codex countries, adopted the guidelines by consensus method. There was brief discussion before adoption taking in comments from a small number of countries and two NGOs.
Australia requested adding the word "only" in Section 1.3 bertwee the words "apply" and "in". The sentence would then read "These guidelines apply only in those jurisdictions where products defined in 2.1 are regulated as foods."
Australia's comments were followed by request from Venzuela and Spain to clarify the spanish translation.
Venezuela was followed by China. China stated that every government in making decisions about vitamins and minerals should take into account the dietary limitations of their own countries, that governments can select vitamins and minerals acocording to the customs and habits of their country. China also pointed out that there should be definitions of the sources of vitamins.
Columbia spoke up and commented that Vitamins and Minerals are intended for deficiencies and are recommended for health reasons and said that there has to be no exaggerated use of minerals.
Egypt commented and offered a clarification saying that vitamin and minerals can be considered if daily needs are not being met.
After the countries were heard, the Chairman recognized NGOs (Non-Governmental Organizations). National Health Federation (NHF) a world wide consumer organization with NGO status at Codex was recognized to speak. Attonery Scott Tipps of NHF stood and requested the guidelines not be adopted but rather be sent back to commitee for 3 important reasons. 1) According to Codex rules a "purpose" statement must be part of all guidelines adopted and the Vitamin and Mineral guidelines did not contain a purpose. Secondly, the guidelines did not define vitamin and mineral and therefore it is unclear as to what is being regulated. And lastly, he pointed out that the Chinese comments were substantive and according to Codex rules on page 27 of the procedural manual, a substantive amendment request should be addressed at the committee level. His comments were heard.
The NGO IADSA was then recognized. IADSA stressed the fact that the draft guidelines should be adopted because they had been worked on in committee for near 10 years and that valuable consensus had been reached in the Bonn Germany committee meeting and the guidelines should now be passed.
After all comments, the Chair, consulted with counsel to assess whether the addition of the word "only" would change the meaning of the sentence. After learning that it would not he consulted with Australia and Australia repeated their request for amendment. The Chair recommended adoption of the amendment and there was no dissent. Then the Chair recommended the guidelines be adopted at Stage 8 in their final form and that China submit their substantive amendment requests to the committee at their next meeting. There was no further comment or dissent from any country and the guidelines were adopted.

We Become Silent
The CODEX-CAFTA Documentary
produced by Kevin Miller
http://herballure.com/Special/WeBecomeSilent/QuickTime.html
Download available (76.5 MB)
CAFTA has a clause in the fine print that makes the U.S. subject to Codex, which could mean the end of our health choices as we know them, - the end of the U.S. DSHEA law that protects quality Vitamins and Mineral Supplements and Nutritional Medicine.
Congress will be voting on CAFTA next week. The Senate already passed it. |

CAFTA And Dietary Supplements
By Rep. Ron Paul, MD
7-19-5
The House of Representatives is scheduled to vote on the Central American Free Trade Agreement in the next two weeks, and one little-known provision of the agreement desperately needs to be exposed to public view. CAFTA, like the World Trade Organization, may serve as a forum for restricting or even banning dietary supplements in the U.S.
The Codex Alimentarius Commission, organized by the United Nations in the 1960s, is charged with "harmonizing" food and supplement rules between all nations of the world. Under Codex rules, even basic vitamins and minerals require a doctor's prescription. The European Union already has adopted Codex-type regulations, regulations that will be in effect across Europe later this year. This raises concerns that the Europeans will challenge our relatively open market for health supplements in a WTO forum. This is hardly far-fetched, as Congress already has cravenly changed our tax laws to comply with a WTO order.
Like WTO, CAFTA increases the possibility that Codex regulations will be imposed on the American public. Section 6 of CAFTA discusses Codex as a regulatory standard for nations that join the agreement. If CAFTA has nothing to do with dietary supplements, as CAFTA supporters claim, why in the world does it specifically mention Codex?
Unquestionably there has been a slow but sustained effort to regulate dietary supplements on an international level. WTO and CAFTA are part of this effort. Passage of CAFTA does not mean your supplements will be outlawed immediately, but it will mean that another international trade body will have a say over whether American supplement regulations meet international standards. And make no mistake about it, those international standards are moving steadily toward the Codex regime and its draconian restrictions on health freedom. So the question is this: Does CAFTA, with its link to Codex, make it more likely or less likely that someday you will need a doctor's prescription to buy even simple supplements like Vitamin C? The answer is clear. CAFTA means less freedom for you, and more control for bureaucrats who do not answer to American voters.
Pharmaceutical companies have spent billions of dollars trying to get Washington to regulate your dietary supplements like European governments do. So far, that effort has failed in America, in part because of a 1994 law called the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act. Big Pharma and the medical establishment hate this Act, because it allows consumers some measure of freedom to buy the supplements they want. Americans like this freedom, however - especially the health conscious Baby Boomers.
This is why the drug companies support WTO and CAFTA. They see international trade agreements as a way to do an end run around American law and restrict supplements through international regulations.
The largely government-run health care establishment, including the nominally private pharmaceutical companies, want government to control the dietary supplement industry - so that only they can manufacture and distribute supplements. If that happens, as it already is happening in Europe, the supplements you now take will be available only by prescription and at a much higher cost - if they are available at all. This alone is sufficient reason for Congress to oppose the unconstitutional, sovereignty-destroying CAFTA bill.
Dr. Ron Paul is a Republican member of Congress from Texas.
