Hey guys. Found a very interesting site about cannabis in Japanese religion which also touches on a few other religions briefly. There were a couple things interesting enough to post here. First, here's a link to the place I found it: http://www.taima.org/en/shinto.htm
I noticed this paragraph and it stood out to me because it makes a good bit of sense about how I feel spiritually about cannabis:
| Quote: |
"Well, the prayer given at the Ise Jingu, which is the shrine to Amaterasu, the founding god of the imperial family, is called taima, or marijuana. Hemp and rice are two sacred things which are part and parcel of the rites conducted at Ise Jingu. This is because hemp and rice were the staple products of the Jomon and Yayoi cultures, respectively. This means they were the most sacred things to these people. The imperial tribe, which was an invading people, took possession of these two sacred things and made them into instruments of control."

What this means to me is that cannabis is sacred simply for being one of our staple crops. For us right now, it's the only thing we grow, but the act of nurturing the plant, and allowing it's fruits to nurture you in return makes it sacred. Since it's first day in our lives it has become one of the most valuable things on the planet to us, and therefore we could not live without it, but it's this kind of spirituality that will never pass a Meyer's or and Andrew's test.
Anyway, the page has a lot more interesting things that it discusses.

| Hemp fibre attached to a wooden stick called a gohei is used in Shinto cleansing ceremonies, such as Shichigosan. Hemp ropes and hemp paper are often seen as decorations in shrines as they are believed to keep away evil. |
Judging by the way cannabis and hemp are persecuted today it's no doubt that the longer they kept it around the longer they were able to ward off evil......[/b] _________________ -Brother Adam (we are all one family)

This is a very important point, Adam.
Our experience of Spirituality has evolved much faster than our laws.
More and more people are marking the box [x] SPIRITUAL, BUT NOT RELIGIOUS ...
This brand of spirituality must, too, be recognized and protected, just as the more traditional religions are.

I agree. The courts must recognize that not only is this a form of "religion" but that it's not something new that was invented just for a get out of jail free card. It is inevitable that we experience these same attractions and feelings as our ancestors did. They knew there was something more to cannabis and so do we. _________________ -Brother Adam (we are all one family)
