SAN JOSE, Calif. A veteran Santa Clara County prosecutor faces a misdemeanor charge for marijuana possession, but remains on the job.
San Jose police found less than an ounce of marijuana at the home of Deputy District Attorney Ed Fernandez after an anonymous caller reported that a front door had been left open.
The District Attorney's office says Fernandez's future depends on the result of an internal investigation. The citation is punishable by a maximum 100-dollar fine.
Fernandez joined the District Attorney's Office in 1985 and has been assigned to the domestic violence team.
The 53-year-old prosecutor calls the charge a "matter of serious personal and professional embarrassment" and says he will accept the consequences.
