Hello there,

Aloha. I have a question looking for an answer. Where does the Catholic Church's sacramental wine come from, and do they pay for it in commerce?

All the best to you,

Roger

well I asked me mother in law and here in the parish of St Cronan's in Swords, Co. Dublin they have wine delivered from Lawlors (sp?).

it is paid for by each individual church. i don;t think its cash on delivery but a bill is sent to the church office. and i would reckon that as they buy in bulk it is at a reduced cost. also the particular customer might ensure a reasonable price? Very Happy

and I gather that it packs quite a punch! being a stronger A.b.v. than most wines. it is prepared, bottled, produced etc. especially for the market for which it is intended..

peace all

They like sweet and strong wines I guess...

And here's some details on the alcohol percentages...

Quote:
The alcoholic content of the wine should be between 12 and 17 percent. There are testers on the market to test for the alcohol content of wine. When the alcohol content is low the wine spoils very easily. When the alcohol content is in the high range the wine keeps much longer. Over the years I have carried by car and by air all the wine that I use in Mass, so these are words again of experience. The ordinary parish uses the 12 percentage alcohol content wine. The missionary on the trail uses the wine in the 17 percent rage.

Think the catholic church has their own "High Times" mag? Probably just for wine though... Smile

Not just for wine at all, Pope Leo XIII was a notorious coke freak, he loved Vin Mariani, a bordeaux wine with coca leaves extract. Laughing
