here are a couple of disturbing stories i keep hearing over and over since day 1 of the hurrican in N.O. links included. :-

The situation in New Orleans goes from bad to worse
03-09-2005 13:19
In possibly the biggest natural disaster of US history,
hurricane Katrina has left devastation in New Orleans and
surrounding areas. Things have gone from bad to worse.
Martial law is declared in New Orleans City. The National
Guard is deployed, with the order to 'Shoot To Kill' in an
attempt to 'stop looting'.
However, reports say the National Guard is also blocking
supplies getting into the affected area's. A group of 500
airboat pilots trying to support the rescue effort were
stopped and sent back. It is estimated 300,000 people are
still trapped by the water. In an interview, the Mayor of
New Orleans, Ray Nagin, lashed out at the Federal
Authority, telling them to 'get off their arses'. Download
interview. The US government is receiving a lot of
criticism as rescue efforts have been chaotic and aid
started to arrive only four days after the hurricane struck.
Priorities of a corporate empire: Bush cut $20-$40 million
needed to strengthen levees - a 2004 project that was
80% complete. Needing troops, he sent 35% of
Louisiana's National Guard to Iraq. Then he pushed to
privatise disaster services including the N.O. disaster
plan, and disabled FEMA (Federal Emergency
Management Agency).

Louisiana officials accused of blocking rescue volunteers
by Wikinews Reporter Friday, Sep. 02, 2005 at 3:43 AM
State Police in Lafayette, Louisiana, have been
accussed of hindering attempts by private citizens to
rescue people trapped by floodwaters in New Orleans.
The accusations were contained in an unconfirmed report
received via email by Jason Robideaux, an attorney from
Lafayette.
State Police in Lafayette, Louisiana, have been accussed
of hindering attempts by private citizens to rescue people
trapped by floodwaters in New Orleans. The accusations
were contained in an unconfirmed report received via
email by Jason Robideaux, an attorney from Lafayette.
The email was written by a person who claimed to be part
of "a group of approximately 1,000 citizens pulling 500
boats" heading into New Orleans to rescue people still
stranded in places such as hospitals. The email claimed
that the members of the flotilla were ".. experienced
boaters, licensed fishermen and hunters, people who
have spent their entire adult life and teenage years on the
waterways of Louisiana."
The email reports that a Dept. of Wildlife & Fisheries
(DWF) agent ordered them to turn around and go home.
"We then specifically asked the DWF agent that we (and
other citizens in the flotillia) be allowed to go to the
hospitals and help evacuate the sick and the doctors and
nurses stranded there. We offered to bring these people
back to Lafayette, in our own vehicles, in order to ensure
that they received proper and prompt medical care," the
email said.
"The DWF agent did not want to hear this and ordered us
home. We complied with the DWF agent's orders, turned
around and headed back to Lafayette along with half of
the flotillia. However, two of my friends were pulling my
other boat, a smaller 15ft alumaweld with a 25 hp. The
DWF agents let them through to proceed to the rescue
operation launch site," the email continued.
The email also reported hundreds of DWF agents who
were not being utilised.
"My two friends were allowed to drive to the launch site
where the La. Dept. of Wildlife and Fisheries were
launching their rescue operations (via boat). They
reported to me that there were over 200 DWF agents just
standing around and doing nothing. My friends were kept
there for approximately 3 hours. During that time they
observed a large number of DWF agents doing nothing.
After three hours had passed they were told that they
were not needed and should go home. They complied
with the DWF's orders and turned around and went home
to Lafayette," the email said.

I would bet that many of the boat operators where white and didn't give a rat's ass about the color of the people they were going to help. They were doing this to save lives. HUMAN lives.

you're right .
its not just the boat men its ordinary people who emptied their bank account and filled cars vans and lorries with food , medicine , water clothing and blankets.
those people were the ordinary decent people mostly not well off or rich and they came from all over the country.
they started arriving at the gulf within 36 hours and not one of them was allowed anywhere near where the victims were.all the roads were blocked by troops and they were told to "go home".
english news teams arriving in the devastated area within 24 hours interviewed quite a few people driving truck loads of supplies who were turned away.

"One is Evil. It is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.
The other is Good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith."
The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, "Which wolf wins?"
The old Cherokee simply replied, "The one you feed." |

once those levees and flood defenses have been rebuilt their is going to be a real estate bonanza down there.
especialy now that all the 'undesireables' have been 'removed'.
yep , all the 'speculators' will be arriving to carve up as much as they can and it will be dirt cheap too.
ooooh look , they are there already circling round like a flock of vultures.

I read he only visited an upperclass neighborhood in Mississippi. When he was asked if he planned to visit NO, he said something like, "Why? I have no interest in going there." _________________ "Penalties against the possession of a drug
