Of course if you fail and preemployment drug test and tell them you use cannabis as a religious sacrament, they will most likely give you another reason as to why they won't hire you. But if you were to work some place for a long time as a good employee and then where fired because of a failed drug test (lets say you would normaly give a fake sample but you were unprepaired this time) and was fired even after you told them of your religious use of the sacrament, would that or wouldn't that be a fireing based on your religion and not a "Employee who uses drugs" fireing as they would say?
This hasn't happend to me or anyone I know but if it ever comes up I'd like to know if it is wrong of them to do so. I was wondering this after reading about how the Supreme Court said that the RFRA protected us even if congress has the Controled Supstance Act. If anyone knows anything please let myself/others know. My Boss knows I smoke and doesn't care as he has never had any complaints or problems with me (I install Directv systems in people's homes) _________________ My belief in God comes from my personal experiences, the feelings in my heart, and the thoughts in my head. I am a Satellite Retailer myself. Dish and DTV.
Most Satellite guys, in my experience, have smoked at one time or another.

They always call them drug tests to scare people but cannabis is not a drug. Drugs are what multi million dollar companies make to get people hooked on so they can have enough money left to give to politicians so they will keep Cannabis illegal so everyone stays sick and they get to sell more drugs. They're Dumb!!! Every time I've been asked If I can pass a drug test I always say--HOW MANY QUESTIONS DUDE??!!! |

I just went to an interview today, and have been hired into a new job. I recently moved to Overland Park, Kansas City, Kansas, and have been repressing my use of sacrament anticipating a 'drug screen'. The job I just got is not the one I have been trying for, but it will do for now. It is a temporary position, and I am sure I will have another test when I get the job I am aiming for, the question is when it will be.
Today I was given an 'oral fluid' test, requiring me to suck on a cotton swab for 3 minutes. The test was sealed, and I believe it is on its way to a lab for analysis. This is the first time I have seen such a test and I researched it a little immediately after returning home. It appears as though one 'weakness' of the oral fluid test is that it only detects cannabinoids in a window of up to 24 hours. This is good news for me as I have been repressing myself for 7.5 days before the test. I have also been flushing my system with so many glasses of iced tea every day, that the tea is flowing through me. I was anticipating a urinalysis.
Well, background information out of the way, how would be the best way to inform an employer that I use cannabis religiously? I don't want to be rejected for a job because of my religious beliefs, but I am tired of repressing myself and my spirituality.
I want to allow myself to pray once a week until I am able to get my own place as I am living with my father for the time being. I have told him of the ministry, he is skeptical, but understands that this is my decision. I also told him that I will respect that he does not want 'Marijuana' in his home and that I will not bring my sacramental cannabis into his home.
Brothers and Sisters, what would you advise I do? Should I continue repressing myself until I get the job that is in my crosshairs so that I am clean of cannabinoids when I am hired? Should I use sacrament and just hope for the company to use an oral swab as I took today? Should I wait for results and inform them of my religion in the event of a positive? Should I tell them at the beginning that they can test me for other substances, but that I will be positive for THC? Please help guide me.

I quit working for anyone else for this reason, among others. I would approach them about it if you are as serious about cannabis spirituality as I am, and if you don't find them receptive (not likely they will be) I would look into ways to support yourself without working for the man. It's not easy, but it's the only way to get anywhere in this world....I have turned down jobs because of urinalysis, because my convictions about cannabis run deeper than the need for any job.
Ultimately, the decision is yours on how to proceed, but don't feel alone if you tell them to shove their test where the sun doesn't shine, because you won't be. _________________ -Brother Adam (we are all one family)
