Friends:
Champaign-Urbana, Illinois is the site of a unique drug reform conference
entitled "Forgivess Weekend: Double Jeopardy or a New Beginning?" C-U
Citizens for Peace and Justice are sponsoring the event, to be held
February 18-20 at Salem Baptist Church.
The events aim to shed light on the racial disparities due to the war on
drugs and will examine felony disenfranchisement. Cliff Thornton, founder
of Efficacy and National NORML Board Member, will be a keynote speaker.
The conference also includes a showing of Busted: A Citizens Guide to
Surviving Police Encounters and a panel on expungement and political
action presented by Rep. Constance Howard and Bryan Brickner of Illinois
NORML.
C-U Citizens for Peace and Justice is a group I co-founded that is also
working on reforming conditions and policies at the Champaign County Jail.
Here is more information about the group and the schedule:

If you would like to attend, please let me know so I can book you a hotel
room at a group rate. If you represent a group that would like a table at
the event, please review our sponsor materials. Other sponsors include
the First Mennonite Church in Urbana, the Anti-War Anti-Racism Effort, the
University of Illinois African-American Cultural Program, the Coalition
for Citizen Police Review, and several local candidates.
