The Marijuana Policy Project is currently seeking to fund experienced community
and/or political organizers to build a statewide coalition in support of passing
medical marijuana legislation in Delaware, Florida, Iowa, North Carolina,
Pennsylvania, and Tennessee (one organizer per state).
Specifically, MPP is seeking organizers who can:
* Build a coalition of "grasstops" supporters -- local organizations, statewide
organizations, and in-state opinion leaders -- who endorse the desired change in
state law;
* Identify grassroots supporters of marijuana policy reform and keep a database
of such supporters;
* Organize and staff information booths in public locations to recruit
supporters;
* Organize both grasstops and grassroots supporters to write op-eds and letters
to the editor, organize and attend demonstrations, distribute leaflets, write to
lawmakers, and meet with lawmakers; and
* Generate favorable news coverage.
Excellent organizational skills; a solid knowledge of state politics, key
players, and potential allies; and a professional appearance and demeanor are
essential. A proven track record of self-direction is a major plus.
Applicants need not live in their state's capital, but applicants living in
remote parts of the state should explain how they will mobilize support in key
urban areas and/or the capital.
Each organizer will receive a grant of up to $60,000 from MPP's grants program
to cover his or her salary and expenses.
To begin the application process, please submit a concise letter of inquiry,
giving an overview of your proposal, as described in MPP's grant guidelines.
Visit http://control.mpp.org/site/R?i=AtgxjBf0rYaS42mR499eTQ.. for more
information. If you have any questions, please contact Nydia Swaby, MPP's grants
director, at (202) 462-5747, ext. 104 or nswaby@mpp.org.
Please pass this information along to anyone you know who might be interested in
building a statewide coalition in support of passing medical marijuana
legislation.
Sincerely,
Nydia Swaby
