Interesting article, and once again, the insanity of the abrahamic scripture followers is being displayed...

Quote:
Mikey Weinstein: Enlisting Christ: Not on my Watch

It is with profound sadness that I approach this Fourth of July. Coming from a long line of veterans and speaking as an Honor Graduate from the U.S. Air Force Academy, my decision to challenge our nation's armed forces has been a painful one.

Through my children, three of whom are U.S. Air Force Academy graduates, along with thousands of other military personnel and chaplains, I have learned firsthand of aggressive internal efforts to evangelize our fighting men and women into a narrow branch of Christianity that claims salvation only for the "born-again" few. Having once sworn to defend and protect our constitution, I had no choice but to found the Military Religious Freedom Foundation and mount a full-frontal legal attack against these forces of intolerance waging war on our foundational freedoms.

In the hierarchical subculture of the military, when your immediate superior tells you to fall in line for Christ or face the consequences, responding with "get out of my face, sir or ma'am" is simply not an option. Imagine then how a young soldier might respond to a multiple-star general ordering his staff to create a PowerPoint presentation showing a direct parallel between the Book of Revelation and our movements in Iraq and Afghanistan. Or a four-star general distributing a flyer "urging" attendance at a religious class at a church outside the base, entitled "Jesus Versus Mohammad: an examination of the life of both prophets and why Jesus is superior to all."

Soldiers and chaplains contact me from the frontlines on a daily basis telling of troops who refuse to be evangelized and are then sent to combat zones with higher concentrations of insurrectionists, jihadists, and IEDs. Many battle staff meetings conducted by commanders begin with evangelical prayers. When a captain confronted his full colonel about one such exclusionary prayer, the colonel grabbed his uniform and said, "Captain, you better get this down right now, boy! We're here to spread American democracy and the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ!" Rather than exceptions, these seem to be the rule.

Today, 12 percent of Americans are Dominionists. This subset of Christianity is dedicated to enforcing a literalist reading of the Bible, and is our own home-grown band of religious fundamentalists. For decades, they have sought to influence government officials, institutions, and policy, with the stated goal of returning our nation, and the world, to Christ. Over the past 6 years with George W. Bush in office, they have made significant inroads into the upper echelons of the Pentagon and rank-and-file, fueling the crusader-like mentality that lies behind the debacle we face in Iraq and beyond.

On every one of the 737 U.S. military installations in 132 countries across the globe, there is now an "Officers Christian Fellowship" for officers, and a "Christian Military Fellowship" for the enlisted, the goal of both being to "Carry the gospel through the medium of ordinary relationships among the entire military community: all services, all ranks, all Christian traditions, and all searchers. There are other well-funded groups such the Military Ministry, a division of Campus Crusades for Christ, that specifically targets basic training installations to convert vulnerable new recruits, and Cadence Ministries, whose "Strategic Ministry" includes preying on those facing the possibility of "deployment and deadly combat" because "shaken people are usually more ready to hear about God than those who are at ease, making them more responsive to the gospel."

To be honest it is the fundementalist not all the abrahamics . But these are the same people who want prayer in school only as long as its their prayers

Washington DC: History was made in the American Congress on Thursday as the US Senate opened its daily session with Hindu prayers.

Former journalist and priest, Rajan Zed wearing the traditional saffron robe, delivered the minute-and-a-half long prayer, which was translated into English as per the rules of the Senate Chaplain.

But before the ceremony could begin, a small group of vocal Christian protestors shouted angry slogans from the visitor's gallery right above the Senate floor.

The demonstrators including two women and one man were arrested in the Senate visitors' gallery for disruption of Congress, a misdemeanor.

On their website this week, the American Family Association also criticised the idea of a Hindu clergyman delivering the prayer.

Meanwhile being given the opportunity to conduct the prayer, Zed said, “It's a great honor for me and Hindus all over the world.”

Nevada-based Zed has performed similar ceremonies in the State Assembly and Senate and traveled to Washington after getting an invitation from Senator Harry Reid to do the same on Capitol Hill.

For almost 200 years the US Senate has started its workdays with prayers usually delivered by the in-house Senate Chaplain.

But equally old is the tradition where Senators invite guest chaplains from their home states to host the prayer ceremony.

From where I look at it, all abrahamic scripture believers/followers are mentally and intellectually challenged.

You have to be a real dumbo to believe any of that crap, and you need to be even a bigger retard to sit and accept a bunch of pedophiles to call you sheep and tell you how to live. ("you" as in generally speaking, not pointing any fingers)

All religious belief is indistinguishable from insanity. I happen to have deeply held religious beliefs, but objective examination reveals that there is no objective method to distinguish between ANY religious beliefs and insanity.

I tend not to agree with that, although I agree that most known religions have concepts and doctrines which requires to be mentally and intellectually challenged to fall for it.

Myself, I happen to have a religious belief system which is based on ancient wisdom, modern science and the spiritual and healing properties of Cannabis and other herbs/plants/entheogens.

I can aussure you that my beliefs can stand any scientific test, as I don't 'believe' anything, believing is for the gullible.

My belief system is based on reality, I'm a realist, and one can also say that I'm an evolutionist and I don't feel any need to believe in things that cannot be scientifically proven or witnessed first hand. There's no need for irrational beliefs in my life as there are enough real things to be learned and discovered, I have no time for irrational beliefs, there's way too much out there that's real and a lifetime is too short as it is allready to discover it all.

This is no secret. The military in this country will try VERY hard to push you into an abrahamic religion because that's what most of them subscribe to.

I totally agree with Ferre. My beliefs are based on real world observations. Not on some phony myth. I'm to the point I just don't care about how someone feels when it comes to religious beliefs based on nothing but faith. Grow up, grow a brain, and realize that there is no tooth fairy, easter bunny, santa claus, or Jesus of Nazareth. I guess when you're brought up believing in bunnies that hide eggs, fat guys that slide down chimneys, and some little tinker bell that steals your teeth for money, believing in a fallacy like Jesus is easy.

You've got to be FAR beyond gullible to accept any abrahamic religion as a truth. You actually have to make a conscious choice not to allow your faith to exist in a place where reality, logic, science, history, and common sense apply. The fact is, you have to be willing to ignore ANYTHING that could be verified on your own, and do it by choice.

If that is your choice....you just aren't intelligent enough to be intellectually stimulating to me.

Ahh see....but they will say that WE are not spiritual! We can't have a "religious" defense because many of our beliefs defy the "religious" classification guidelines that are in the constitu.......oh, wait, guidelines for what is a religion aren't allowed according to the constitution?? Ahh heck...I get so confused with their christian court system.

A definition of Religion is in order

The Oxford English Dictionary, 1971:

Religion:

Action or conduct indicating a belief in, reverence for, and desire to please a divine ruling power; the exercise or practice of rites or observances implying this.

A particular system of faith and worship.

Recognition on the part of man of some higher unseen power as having control of his destiny, and as being entitled to obedience, reverence, and worship; the general mental and moral attitude resulting from this belief, with reference to its effect upon the individual or the community; personal or general acceptance of this feeling as a standard of spiritual and practical life.

Devotion to some principle; a strict fidelity or faithfulness; conscientiousness; pious affection or attachment.

Ferrre you say you believe in Ancient wisdom does this perclude the believe in deities Since all ancient peoples have a belief system devoted to one or a pantheon of deities.

Unfortunately you seem to practice the same intolerance for which you say you despise in Abrahamics. Does this extend to others who practice other faith that believe in deities other than . Or is it just misdirected at all the believers of the Abrahamic god.

I am no evangelist and do not wish to impose my own beliefs on others. And I will not insult the beliefs of others as you do. By calling it bull crap. This gets of us nowhere and just illustrates our own hypocracys, That is my own opinion and opinions are like assholes everybody's got one.

All ancient, and modern wisdom, also known as knowledge, doubts the existence of deities. Ancient wisdom, to me, is the origins of science. Science doesn't even find circomstantial evidence for the existence of deities, apart from myths and fairy tales.

Ancient wisdom and modern science tells us that there are millions of people that believe in deities. That does not make them real though, and that certainlay doesn't make me believe in any deities.

In my book, deities are used as a metaphore for stories on things that science has no answer for (yet) to give the intellectually challenged some sort of peace of mind.

My disgust for the abrahamic scriptures and their followers is based on the fact that those scriptures are a manual for rascim, genocide and hatred and has caused millions of deaths during the past centuries.

Every day when I open the news papers I am confronted with the insanity caused by the believers/followers of those scriptures, and the violence comes from ALL branches from that religion.

I am a member of one of the most tolerant cultures on earth but I have no tolerance for dangerously insane structures in our society, fascism is such a structure, and fascism, as history shows, goes hand in hand with those scriptures.

The Abrahamic scriptures teach you nothing about spirituality, teach you nothing about nature, do not tell you to educate yourself (the word education is non existing in that book) All they teach you is to live in a big lie and obey the leaders, and to be called sheep.

Hmm....I might piss some people off with this post, but I just don't care any longer. This ministry is based on the ancient wisdom of enlightenment through entheogens. Not based on any deities what so ever. The modern science part tells us not to bother with deities along with many other interesting things.

As far as intolerance goes, it gets difficult to tolerate grown men and women who kill in the name of fantasized deities in this day and age. Just about every one of the world's ills come from people who tout their abrahamic beliefs as divine and holy. There's nothing holy about anything to do with conquests, wars, inquisitions, or anything of the like yet almost every world leader is subscribing to these faiths and taking action in the name of those gods. In case you haven't noticed, our world is falling apart thanks to these religions.

To say that all abrahamic religions are a fallacy is not an insult. It's a fact. Just like we know Zuess and all the Greek and Roman gods don't exist, the same is true for Jesus and the whole plagiarized bible story. To say that we here use entheogens to further our understanding and experience parts of this reality not available without them is based on fact. There are no guarantees once you're gone and every last soul on this planet knows that. This is why abrahamic followers need god, they can't accept that this life could just end and all be for nothing or that there isn't some rosy place to go after living in their own hell on earth. However, most of the people left here at this particular ministry believe that our spirituality is to be experienced in the here and now, because no living man truly knows what tomorrow will bring.

If these statements hurt the feelings of the "believers", I have to say that's just too bad. Either accept scientific and historical fact or there's no damn help for you. When a man is willing to deceive even HIMSELF for nothing more than an unsubstantiated belief he is dangerous not only to himself, but to everyone around him. THIS is the core of the problem with abrahamic religions. It allows the people to have a place in their mind where everything solid and real in this world doesn't matter. There will always be that "god", whatever that is, to "save" them from everything bad that either they do, or that happens to them.

Under your definition of a religion, I would have to say this one falls under "devotion to a principle". We are devoted to the principle that it's the journey that matters, not the destination. We are devoted to the principle of gaining peace and TOTAL enlightenment (not possible while believing in a FAITH) through the use of modern science, common sense, logic, and entheogens.

I think that covers that. On another note, I have some dear friends who believe in this crap. I will fight to the death to protect their right to believe it, but I will do so the entire time exercising my right to call it crap. Cool

No need for that bro, it's plain common sense and rational thought that usually finds the same answers, provided that all information to come to factual conclusions is available.

In science it's called peer review.

Very Happy

Most of you are familiar with the works of Dr. Robert Melamede, Associate Professor and Biology Chairman (ret) at the Biology Department of the University of Colorado who has conducted extensive research into Cannabinoids and the endo Cannabinoid system of us humans. Dr. Robert Melamede is a member of our ministry and words his belief system like this:

Dr. Robert Melamede wrote:
EVOLUTIONISM

“What is life?” is a question everyone considers. My search for the answer to this question drove me to become a scientist, a professional biologist. Throughout my career I have searched for a scientific basis for life and human behavior, having found conventional religions incomplete. Over the past three decades, as the principles of far from equilibrium thermodynamics have been discovered, they have become the basis of my religious beliefs, how I relate to the universe. Now, for the first time in human history, the process of life can be understood from a scientific point that can serve as a guide for human behavior. My faith is in the validity of science. The belief system that I will describe is known as Evolutionism, and I am an evolutionist.

Surprisingly, evolution has selected for marijuana-like compounds to play a critical role in maintaining human health. The appropriate use of marijuana is good for you and its appropriate use is thus mandated by evolutionism since evolutionists strive to do what scientific facts suggest is healthy for themselves, their family, their community, their country and their planet. Currently, I am deprived of my religious freedom. I cannot practice my fact-based religion because people of faith-based religions deny the truth about this unique plant, and make laws contrary to fact. Because I faithfully adhere to my religious principles, I am a criminal!

All people make marijuana-like compounds known as endocannabinoids. Whenever anyone gets hungry, they are giving themselves the "munchies" with the cannabinoids that they produce. In fact, cannabinoids control every system in the human body (cardiovascular, nervous, endocrine, immune, digestive, reproductive, excretory, musculo-sketetal). It is because of their all-pervasive activity that cannabinoids can impact on so many illnesses. Cannabinoids: kill many types of cancer cells, protect against Alzheimer's disease, delay the onset and severity of auto-immune diseases such as arthritis, diabetes, multiple sclerosis and Crohn's disease, and recently has been shown to both protect the heart from damage as well as to protect against, arteriosclerosis, they relieve pain, stimulate the appetite and promote sound sleep. Cannabinoids also regulate stress, learning and open-mindedness. Hence, we can predict that many followers of faith-based religions are deficient in cannabinoid activity, and are impaired in their capacity for open-mindedness. As a result, they make laws that are contrary to fact and freedom.

Before elaborating on my religious beliefs it is important that we have a definition of religion. Here are some examples:

“Religion, sometimes used interchangeably with faith, is commonly defined as belief concerning the supernatural, sacred, or divine, and the practices and institutions associated with such belief. In its broadest sense some have defined it as the sum total of answers given to explain humankind's relationship with the universe. In the course of the development of religion, it has taken an almost infinite number of forms in various cultures and individuals” en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Religion

"Any specific system of belief about deity, often involving rituals, a code of ethics, and a philosophy of life." Thus we would include Agnosticism, Atheism, conservative Christianity, Humanism, Islam, Judaism, liberal Christianity, Native American Spirituality, Wicca and other Neopagan traditions as religions” www.religioustolerance.org/gl_r.htm

“An organized system of belief that generally seeks to understand purpose, meaning, goals, and methods of spiritual things. These spiritual things can be God, people in relation to God, salvation, after life, purpose of life, order of the cosmos, etc.” www.carm.org/dictionary/dic_p-r.htm

Far from equilibrium thermodynamics, as pioneered by Nobel Laureate Illya Prigogine, shows that flowing energy intrinsically has a creative capacity. This physical reality has manifest itself as chemical evolution, life and consciousness As such, these principles constitute the foundation of a belief in an abstract higher creative force that has parallels with other religious beliefs (GOD=neralized open system dynamics). These concepts are of particular interest to a growing number of people in a broad spectrum of fields, in particular those devoted personal growth, health, and the exploration of their minds. The principles of evolutionism provide a foundation, based on sound scientific principles for viewing life in a positive, and constructive manner. On the other hand they provide a unifying framework to challenge current laws that squander our resources and unconstitutionally restrict our basic human rights including religious freedom.

Basic Principles for Evolutionists
The universe has been expanding and cooling since the big bang. Regardless of what one posits to be responsible for these events, they appear to be governed by physical laws. Evolutionists see the Second Law of thermodynamics, as it pertains to far from equilibrium systems such as the Earth’s biosphere, as the driving force behind evolution. In contrast those who deny evolution incorrectly apply the Second Law of Thermodynamics as it applies to equilibrium systems to justify intelligent design. Hence being an evolutionist does not exclude other religions beliefs unless they specifically exclude the belief in the evolutionary process. We now understand that whenever far from equilibrium systems are considered, where there is a negentropic potential, a source, and an entropic sink, where disorder increases, there is the possibility for spontaneous organization (creativity). In other words, as long as the entropy of the universe increases, the entropy of subsystems can decrease (the second law of thermodynamics). For example, our sun emits a spectrum of electromagnetic radiation that is rich in ultraviolet light. This type of light is of relatively high frequency and hence has greater information potential (high frequency) than does lower frequency light. The biosphere is powered by the information potential extracted from the higher frequency light. The earth re-irradiates infrared light back into the space. Infrared light is of a lower frequency and therefore has less information capacity. Evolution and all of its creative manifestations result from the process of acquiring and refining energy that comes from our sun and the expanding universe. Health is indicated by an organism's (population’s) distance from equilibrium. The further from equilibrium an organism (population’s) is, the greater its organization and state of health. Equilibrium is the state of maximum disorder or greatest entropy. Thus, as an organism (population) approaches equilibrium, health declines. The opposite is also true. The move from equilibrium moves an individual (population) towards health. Therefore, an intelligent life form would conclude that it must move further from equilibrium if health and survival were of value. We must uncover, as individuals, how to apply these thermodynamic principles to manage our ecosystems and individual lives in sensible, healthy ways. What does this mean from a practical point of view? It is a personal search for an evolving understanding and application of the principles under discussion. It requires lifelong learning. This process becomes a fulltime perspective as one applies and refines the simple concept of moving further from equilibrium to all aspects of ones existence. Our life’s energy becomes more functionally applied as less energy is wasted on primitive nonfunctional organized structures that waste life’s potential. All things that healthy individuals in a healthy society value conform to the paradigm that there is value in the move from equilibrium. Our planet, its ecosystems, nations, communities, families all evolve by these principles.
