Man escapes jail over cannabis 'allotment'
RHIANNON EDWARD
A 60-YEAR-OLD man, who grew thousands of pounds worth of cannabis in his home, escaped a jail sentence yesterday after he was found to be growing the plant out of an interest in horticulture.
Temporary judge Ian Simpson, QC, ordered Richard Murray to perform 240 hours' unpaid work in the community.
The High Court in Glasgow heard police found £12,000 worth of cannabis and £2,000 in cash when they raided his flat in Keith Court, Partick, on 30 December, last year.
Murray admitted growing cannabis and being in illegal possession of the drug. His plea of not guilty to being concerned in the supply of cannabis was accepted by the Crown. Temporary judge Simpson told Murray: "What you had in the top floor of your house was a fertile allotment rather than a cannabis factory."

Please consider this my official application for a "fertile allotment"! This Judge Ian Simpson is killing me with laughter. 'Temporary judge', indeed! I nominate him for Prime Minister!
And good for Richard Murray. That bloke must have some strong consciousness. No 'victim' there. Too funny.
All the best to you,
Roger
