I have terible insomnia and would like to not have to take pills to sleep. I see this as a serious medical condition, it hinders my ability to funstion properly and normally. not that i really want to be normal, but the pills have got me thinking, couldnt this be a legitiate medical condition treatable by certain strains of herb that get you tired? especially when I would rather not take drugs to get to sleep.
does anyone have any feedback on this idea? _________________ www.shoutwire.com

Yes its treatable. With or if ya have none..
Why dont you try a warm glass of milk. Its warming sparks loose a drug reaction in your brain that makes you sleep like a baby. Thats why babys fall asleep nursing.
Also sleepy time teas are available. I have 3 different sleeping disorders and it isnt fun. I just learned to go with the flow. I keep odd hours take long naps. A nap can be as long as 4 hours to me. _________________

Indica is, generally speaking, helpful with sleep.
And yes, Lilli....I've had lots of 20 minute naps turn into 6 hour ones!
Bliss,

You might want to try Melatonin, which is the bodys own sleep hormone if I understand correctly. Its sold in health-food stores and the likes, mostly against jetlag. _________________ "Rastafari is not a faith which can be converted to. Yea, zero, mj does help with insomnia, especially a couch-lock indica sp.
I have chronic/critical insomnia from a MV-accident in 1984 that left me in a comma for seven days. I have tried just about every manmade pill with no relief from any of them.
The very few nights that I slept four or more hours was due to an indica mj intake. Milk, tea or any other homeopathic remedies didn't help me at all.
I even made a "hop pillow" from hops and other herbs/spices that smelled good, but didn't produce the z's.
My advice is roll you a blunt of afghany or simialar mature indica strains and smoke it before retiring at night.
Peace,

In Chinese medicine insomnia is usually due to a condition of the Shen. or Heart...not so much physically but psycho-emotionally.
If you think this is a serious condition I would go see a good TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) Practitioner for at least 4 treatments of acupuncture and herbs.... _________________ Fyrefly1

Insomnia is an evil beast.
Some people need to sleep less than others and function well, but if not sleeping enough is a problem to you, sure enough you have to do something about it.
Someone mentioned melatonine. Spot on! That's the hormone we produce ourselves naturally and gives us our natural bio-rhythm. Like feeling hungry at about the same time every day, feeling sleepy at about the same time every day, waking up going to the toilet and so on.
I did suffer from severe insomnia at one point in my life, and even though some sacrament can be the finishing touch, it's your bio-rhythms you better work on.
My cure, self prescribed and very effective, was a simple one and it worked for me. I took a couple of weeks to myself and worked on it.
Go out in the morning and spend as much time as possible in the natural sun light.
Get some healthy exercise, preferebly in the open.
Eat three times a day, balanced diet.
Make yourself tired during the day.
Do not watch more than two hours TV/PC a day.
Take a warm scented bath before bed-time.
Evoid artificial light for long hours.
Bring a book to bed with you.
Should you awake during the night, do not stay in bed. Do not think too much. Distract yourself with some more reading. Only when you feel you are about to nod off, either go back to bed or sleep on the couch.
Your hormones should be fixed in ten days or so. The light you take during the day is very important. And the darkness at night should make your melatonine levels go up. As well as winding down with a bath and some reading.
Try this out. What have you got to lose?
