Honestly, I'd like to be one of FEW left behind if something like this did happen. Maybe then I'd get a chance to lead people into a peaceful new millenium....

NEW ORLEANS (Reuters) - U.S. troops poured into New Orleans on Friday with shoot-to-kill orders

Outside a looted Rite-Aid drugstore, some people were anxious to show they needed what they were taking. A gray-haired man who would not give his name pulled up his T-shirt to show a surgery scar and explained that he needs pads for incontinence.

``I'm a Christian. I feel bad going in there,'' he said.

Earl Baker carried toothpaste, toothbrushes and deodorant. ``Look, I'm only getting necessities,'' he said. ``All of this is personal hygiene. I ain't getting nothing to get drunk or high with.''

...

Tourist Debbie Durso of Washington, Mich., said she asked a police officer for assistance and his response was, ``'Go to hell - it's every man for himself.'''

``This is just insanity,'' she said. ``We have no food, no water ... all these trucks and buses go by and they do nothing but wave.''

...

``This is not a FEMA operation. I haven't seen a single FEMA guy,'' he said. He added: ``We can send massive amounts of aid to tsunami victims, but we can't bail out the city of New Orleans.''

More power to ya, Rev. A.

The aftermath did not need to happen like this. Georgie wants to make the people so desperate and degraded that they will gladly accept anything without protest. Sad Sad Sad

Hurricane Katrina reignites debate over global warming and storm intensity
By Associated Press
Thursday, September 1, 2005 - Updated: 01:03 PM EST

Hurricane Katrina's fury has reignited the scientific debate over whether global warming might be making hurricanes more ferocious

At least one prominent study suggests that hurricanes have become significantly stronger in the past few decades during the same period that global average temperatures have increased. Katrina blew up in the Gulf of Mexico to a Category 5 hurricane with winds of 175 mph before slackening a bit Monday when it hit, swamping New Orleans and the Mississippi coast.

Other leading scientists agree the Atlantic Basin and Gulf Coast regions are being battered by a severe hurricane phase that could persist for another 20 years or more. But they believe that a natural environmental cycle is responsible rather than any human-induced change, and they point to what they consider to be large gaps in the global warming analysis conducted by a climatologist at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Roger Pielke Jr., who studies the social impacts of natural disasters and climate change at the University of Colorado, said any link between the intensity of Katrina and other recent hurricanes and global warming is ``premature.'' Most forecasts suggest climate change would increase hurricane wind speeds by 5 percent or less later in this century.

Pielke's analysis will be published later this year in the Bulletin of the American Meteorological Society.

``There are good reasons to expect that any conclusive connection between global warming and hurricanes or their impacts will not be made in the near term,'' he said.

In August, MIT climatologist Kerry Emanuel reported in the journal Nature that major storms spinning in both the Atlantic and the Pacific have increased in duration and intensity by about 50 percent since the 1970s. During that period, global average temperatures have risen by about one degree Fahrenheit along with increases in the level of carbon dioxide and other heat-trapping pollutants from industry smokestacks, traffic exhaust and other sources. In 1967, satellite imagery measured it (The Sermilik glacier in southern Greenland) moving at 7 kilometers (4.3 miles) per year. In 2003, it was twice that -- 13 kilometers (8.1 miles) per year.

"What exactly happened, we don't know but it appears to be the effect of climate change," said Hoejmark Thomsen.

Last month, U.S. scientists issued a report saying the rate of ice melting in the Arctic is increasing and within a century could lead to summertime ice-free ocean conditions not seen in the area in a million years.

It's been happening for years, they've just been doing all they can to hide it in the media. I live in FL, so we're constantly watching, and feeling the increased effects of global warming. Our temperatures here continue to hit new highs each year, our storms get more severe, and the hurricanes come more frequently. That little rooster that said "the sky is falling" was right! Laughing

Elsewhere I've read that 2 new storms are brewing in the over-heated waters of the gulf. Please keep those prayers and positive thoughts going. Forecasters are predicting things will continue to worsen over the next several decades.

yep

the sun is the engine that
powers our weather systems
.the planet is surrounded by a
multi - layer gas envelope which
protects us from the harmful spectrums
and heat emitted by the sun.

nasties like gamma rays , ion streams
, ultraviolet radiation ,
electro-magnetic flux and heat.

our sun fuses atoms (the hydrogen
and helium interaction ) which occurs at
a rate of 4 million tons per second on the
surface. a sort of giant controled hydrogen bomg.

burning a big f##king hole in the sky
doesn't look like a good idea , unless
of course your a freemason and have
taken the oath "not to rest until all
creaton has been destroyed" .

The other is Good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith."

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, "Which wolf wins?"

The old Cherokee simply replied, "The one you feed."

Biggest typhoon in 30 years batters China island

BEIJING (Reuters) - The strongest storm to hit China's southern resort island of Hainan in decades ploughed along its coast on Monday after killing two people and forcing more than 170,000 from their homes.

Typhoon Damrey had caused casualties, flattened houses and damaged crops on an island often referred to as China's Hawaii since it made landfall on Sunday, but the full extent of the destruction was unknown, a disaster relief official said.

"The primary threat now is strong winds, but judging from our experience in recent years, river floods are also possible if the heavy rains continue," he told Reuters by telephone.

I hope it's not my body odor. Embarassed I mean, I know I eat a lot of garlic and chili peppers, but come on! I bathe once a day, and I never raise my arms to high once pools of sweat start to form beneath them.

I really hope it's not me... Rolling Eyes

Warning and fatal tornado arrive together
THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
11/14/2005

STRATFORD, IOWA

Ron Runyan couldn't hear the sirens. The wind was deafening.

In a matter of moments, the quiet weekend he had planned with his mother and sister turned into a nightmare.

Runyan, 47, a truck driver from Fargo, N.D., looked outside his mother's window Saturday night and saw a howling tornado headed for the house. He rushed his family into the basement as the disaster struck.

"My sister fell down right below the stairs, and my mom, with the wind - kind of took her away from me," he said. "It was so dirty, I couldn't see her, and that was it."

His mother, Lucille Runyan, 84, was the only person killed in storms that produced at least nine tornadoes on Saturday. His sister, Nancy Runyan, 53, remained hospitalized Sunday night with a broken hip.

As crews removed debris from what remained of his mother's home Sunday, Ron Runyan stood across the street in the small town of about 745 residents.

"Everything happened so fast," he said. "We were down below the stairs and the roof was coming off. Everything was folding. The house was crackling."

Runyan said he would have died, too, if he hadn't dived into a corner when the roof blew off.

Stratford and Woodward, 30 miles to the south, were the hardest hit by the tornadoes that swept through central Iowa on Saturday afternoon. The governor declared Hamilton and Dallas counties, north and west of Des Moines, disaster areas, making them eligible for state assistance.

As many as 30 homes in Stratford were destroyed, and at least 40 in Woodward were severely damaged, officials said. Authorities said they believed all residents were accounted for.

"It's amazing. If you've seen the damage here, we had homes that were just obliterated, and they had people in them at the time it came through," said Dallas County Sheriff Brian Gilbert.

National Weather Service meteorologist Karl Jungbluth said the tornadoes that struck Woodward and Stratford were both being classified as F-2 on the Fujita scale, which measures the strength of a tornado up to F-5, the strongest. Both towns were hit with winds that approached 150 mph.

I thought this was important to post because I grew-up just north of Iowa and I cannot for the life of me remember any tornados after late August. And never in November, even if there's no snow. It's just too goddamned cold and dry! What could be causing this?

Pat Robertson might suggest, "This could be the hand of God striking justice. Repent you heathens & sinners!"

But I just think its mundane global warming, don't you?

I already started building my ark.
