the sick , horrific cost of our cosy , oil-fueled industrial societies.
link ---> http://www.iraqbodycount.org/
the site contains a regularly updated 'tally' of Iraqi civilian deaths directly attributed to the war.
i ask you to remember that the well respected british medical journal called the Lancet estimated the death toll to be in excess of 100,000 people.that was ONE YEAR AGO!
the last year has been , by far , the worst year of the oil war.
the reason the numbers vary so wildly is that their is a difference in both the sources of information used and the way that data is interpreted.
most experts agree that the Lancet figures are probable much more accurate.
this means that the current Iraqi civilian death toll must stand somewhere between 170,000 and 220,000 iraqi civilians killed !
Neither of these figures takes any account of the number of young American soldiers killed.
neither of these figures takes any account of the numbrer of people crippled , maimed , burned , blinded or otherwise wounded , either Iraqi or American.
neither of these figures takes any account of the number of people , American or Iraqi , who will live the rest of their lives tortured by memories of the horror that this and all wars involve.
that BP/EXXON oil pipeline is proving to be very expensive indeed - in human terms.
ps. maybe one day i will post something a little bit more positive .... maybe.
PEACE
