A Protestant english visitor to the palace of the Catholic Sun King (Louis XIV of france)was taken on a tour of the royal gallery.Louis took great sadistic pleasure in showing him a picture of the Crucifixion which he know would anoy the hell out of the englishman because it was flanked by two portraits guaranteed to rile any Protestant -
" That on the right is the Pope " said the king " and that on the left is myself ."

" i humbly thank your Majesty for this information " replied the englishman "for though i often heard that our Lord was crucified between two thieves , i never knew who they were until now. "

During the early days of WW2 hitler and hermann goering were visiting benito mussolini in Rome.the crowd was so large that the Germans were force to push their way through the crowd.
As he was following hitler and barging his way through the crowd goering rudely jostled one Italian Aristocrat , who immedietly demanded an appology.

" I am hermann goering " the huge nazi retorted.

upon hearing this the Italian Aristocrat bowed elegantly and replied :-

" As an excuse that is inadequate , but as an explaination it is ample "
