I have come across several fairly old news items on the web, dated around April 2004, that told of the Dutch government's proposed ban on 'Skunk'/Nederwiet and various other, modern, high THC content forms of cannabis. If you google for "Dutch ban skunk", or "Dutch ban Nederwiet[sp?]"...you will see these bulletins for yourselves. Here is one online reference of the proposed ban:
http://rimone.org/archives/2004/04/14/dutch-coffeeshops-face-ban-on-skunk/
What I want to know is this: What became of this rather ill judged attempt by the Dutch government to "ban skunk"? Apparently the rationale of this study was based on the fact that the THC content found in Dutch varieties had considerably shot up in recent years, due to modern hash making & hydroponic growing advances, from around 9% to around 15% THC. Is this still 'on the cards'? Or did they realise what we all know, and that this would be a backward step for the war on drugs. Surely, the Dutch more than anyone knows that illegality merely hands power back to the black market criminals? |

It was another of those wild and very unrealistic (in this country) dreams that came from our Christian Democrat party. As usual they came with totally rediculous and stupid proposals that only made the news outside Holland and wasn't even worth mentioning here, AND it never came to a real law proposal, it's all blown-up-air, as usual from our beloved Christian politicians.

Thanks for clearing that up. I was worried it may come into effect before I got there. My friend and I will be there in about 18 days time. We are coming to the 'Dam' for five, hopefully glorious days. I can't wait. It would have been typical for this to have come into law just before I got there. I carry bad luck around with me!
What is so stupid is that they don't realise that when the weed is stronger, most if not all smokers adjust the amount used to take it into consideration. I certainly do. If I use the same amount I use here, only with Dutch gear, I would be on my back after a couple of s. So, as makes perfect sense, I use less. |
