Today, the British court has found Granny Pat (as her friends know here) guilty of possesing and growing.
See BBC News:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/tyne/6426831.stm
What I find stunning in this article is the following:
| Quote: |
| In 2005, Judge David Hodson refused to jail Tabram, saying he did not want to make her a martyr. |
This clearly indicates that the british court realizes that putting people in jail for the use and possesion of a natural herbal remedy for their pain is not accepted by their own society and that by sending people to jail the general public will regard those people as victims of an unjust system.
Another thing that I found totally insane is the comment from the police spokesman who said:
| Quote: |
| Northumbria Police spokesman said: "We take drug abuse very seriously and are keen to use all tools at our disposal to eliminate drug dealing and use in the community." |
Since when is the use of a herbal remedy against one's pain "drug abuse"???
Those are clearly symptoms of a sick system and the only abuse I see here is the abuse of power by a government that doesn't have the interests of the people in their minds at all.
I met Granny Pat a couple of years ago, and she is one of the sweetest people I've ever met, my thoughts are with her. _________________ █ Please read the Board Rules and Posting, and you

As the article said, had it not been for a denunciation she would never have had to appear in court.
Those cops in their everyday lifes only encounter Cannabis in context of crime. E.g. take reporting like this:
| Quote: |
All Nathan Moore says he wanted to do was smoke pot and get drunk with his friends.
Killing Rex Baum was never part of the plan that day in 2004.
"It all started off as a game," Moore said.
The 15-year-old and his friends were taunting the homeless man -- throwing sticks and leaves -- after having a couple of beers with him.
No big deal, Moore says, but he's sorry for what came next. |
Read it all. Reporting like this may lure even a honest man into prejudice. |

| What's up with Britain? If you're a nobody cannabis devotee, you have to do the court thing, if you're a high-profile devotee like Paul McCartney or Mick Jagger, they call you 'Sir'. |
