LONDON (Reuters) - Forty British parliamentarians have asked U.N Secretary-General Kofi Annan to seek the opinion of the U.N.'s International Court of Justice on the legality of the Iraq war, the Daily Mirror newspaper reported on Monday.
It said that the cross-party group, which had written a letter to Annan dated July 20, believes Prime Minister Tony Blair's government breached the U.N.'s charter when it joined the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq. The letter asked for an "advisory opinion" from the court in the Hague.
"Lots of people have concerns about the legitimacy of the war and it seems we do need to have clarification on this," said Alan Simpson, an MP from Blair's own ruling Labour party, who is leading the group.
The British public has long been suspicious of the motives behind the invasion of Iraq and a report earlier this month by former civil servant Lord Butler has given Blair's critics fresh ammunition to question his credibility.
Butler cleared Blair of distorting spies' assessments on Iraq but exposed faulty intelligence. He criticized Blair's informal style of government and its closeness to secret agents.
The parliamentarians' letter to Annan said: "It is clear that, in Britain and the United States, war was justified on the basis of intelligence reports of current and serious threats from weapons of mass destruction, purportedly held by Iraq, all of which turned out to be without foundation."
"We look to the court for an advisory opinion on this war, not only to address the casualties and damage done to the people and country of Iraq, but also to offer clear guidelines for the future about the legality of pre-emptive wars." |

It's only the start bro, I am pretty sure we will see that whole bunch of "modern fascists", including George W Bush go to court on war crimes and crimes agains humanity. It's just a matter of time.
Those dudes really think they can get away with war crimes...wrong thinking, as they always do btw.

History shows us that the victors in any conflict write the records and choose who gets prosecuted. A judgement by the UN that this war was illegal would in the least part go some way to changing this. But when GW says, "Yeah, so what?" what's anyone going to do? How many countries are going to lead the charge to 'liberate' the USA from it's 'evil dictator'? None.
I was about to launch into a rant about justice being imposed by the people but we'll have to wait and see what the UN says.

They will be starting on Iran soon enough but i think dear ole GDUBYA is going to find it harder to get the coalition he had last time!! i hope the British public or M.P's don't allow him to take us into another war.
We need a worldwide general strike to let the politicians know how out of touch with the masses they really are.
  men will always show their hand, its been shown by the axis of evil ( G W BUSH TONY B LIAR and others including the UN who seem to me to have no authority )

Thank you for pointing that out they have no idea at all do they?
The only reason they picked iraq was so georgie junior could make it upto georgie senior and of course G DUBYA'S total lack of geographical knowledge i'm suprised he manages to get from his ranch to the whitehouse without getting lost.
Whats it going to take to stop this war monger and his mates from bringing the world to the brink of destruction.

When they do not get stopped, they will not only invade Iran, but many other countries will follow, all that's needed to get invaded is not agree with US foreign politics, who would be next? (after Iran?)

Yep, but ALL THEY DO is using WMD's. Remember that DEPLETED URANIUM is forbidden by the Geneva convention but they drop it everywhere and don't care for the consequenses.
