benefit concert for Carl Olsen

I am working on a benefit concert for Carl Olsen. Carl Olsen is famous from a religious cannabis case that went to the U.S. Supreme Court a couple of decades ago. Unfortunately, he lost and his case has been cited in literally hundreds of appeals court decisions denying religious right to cannabis.

The good news is that he is currently working his way through the courts again based on the RFRA and the RLUIPA to have his case reexamined on the basis that he was not given his full rights under the law and the the RFRA and RLUIPA should require the Supreme Court to give him different legal tests than the ones that were applied in the original case.

A victory by Carl Olsen (which is certainly possible -- the vast majority of current cases are using arguments that Carl Olsen developed over the years) would completely reverse he current situation and literally make it easy for religious cannabis users to get their cases dismissed without going to trials.

Unfortunately, the appeals court is demanding three fees, over $400 each, with the possibility of additional fees piled on. The current total demanded is around one and half thousand dollars and if Carl can't get this paid, then his case gets thrown out of court without even being heard.

I am organizing a benefit concert in southern California. The only venue I found that was willing to take on such a controversial cause has severe noise restrictions.

I had several very good local bands lined up, but now must find good bands (really, good bands, not just any old garage hacks) or good solo artists who can play with only the voice being amplified and no drum kits.

Also I need to line up speakers who can talk about the religious right to use cannabis and the importance of this cause.

Also, I need trustworthy people to volunteer to collect donations, serve as security, serve as roadies, etc.

The concert is scheduled for October 4, 2007.
