A human rights complaint was filed by mr. Lillico aganst the College of Physicians and Surgeons concerning access to medical marihana under the federalregulations, the Medical Marihuana Access Regulations SOR/2001-227. under the regulations, docters are required to sign forms attestign tot he risks and benefits of medical marihuana. The medical benefitsof medical marihuana have been the subject of much debate. The parties have agreed to seetle the complaint on the basis that the Colege will develop a resouce on the risks and benefits of medicla marihuana, and the resource will be available to physicians and the public on line at www.cpsbc.ca. This resource will enable physician members to make an informed deision on the risks and benefits of medical marihuana in response to requests from patients.
this resouce will be made available with in six months time.

You're not alone, Dennis.

There are many of us struggling against corruption who would rather be helping someone else.

Welcome, my friend

... to the Ministry.

love,

Stokes

trail man settles fight for acess to medical marijuana

by kate skye
trail staff

Dennis Lillico is relieved his year-long fight over the right to be prescibed medicial marrijuana is over
HE settled his case against the b.c college of physicains and surgeons and a vancover physician this week and feels it is "a good thing becouse it will now put information inot the hands of the doctors."
Lillioc began his battle over a year ago when three docters he visited refused to give him the green light for presciption for medicinal marijuana.
"i feel i was discriminated agiants,"Lillico told the times in august of 2004, when he heard his case with the b.c human rights tribunal woudl proceed to a hearing.
"The college sent out a position statemnt discouraging physicians form prescibing marijuana to there patients," Lillico said at that time. "How is someone like me supposed to gian acess to meidcla marijuana if the college tells their docters not to proscibe it?"
But now that his case has been heard, the parties have agreedto settle the complaint without and admission by the college that it discriminated against lillico, siad Frances Kelly, a lawyer wiht the Community Legal Assistance Society.
"Both parties settled and mutually agreed on a confidentiality provision,"Kelly said."Its a positive step."
As well as the confidentiality provision, a decision was made to ensure the college develops a resource on teh risks and benifits of meidical marijuana. The resource will be availableto docters and to the public online at www.cpsbc.ca
"This resouce will enable physicianmembers to make an informed decision on the risks and beniftis ofmeidcla marijuana in response to requests from patients," the ruling states.
Lillico siad that the mroe infomration peopel have, including the medical community, the better served the public will be.
"There is also a change happening in the fedral govermtns meidcal marijuana acess- regulation exemption forms,"Lillico said. "That changes, might be that peopel dont need a specialist to sign the forms anymore."
Another positive step for Lillico is that the Ministry for Human Resources has agreed to provide funding for him to travel to Ottawa in may to see a leading expert on his unique disability.
Diagnosed with a rare neurological disorder knows as familial autosomal dominant myoclonic dystonia,"Lillico insists that marijuana is the only "medication"that offers him relief for servere pain.
"I am hoping this (docter)will be albe to take a look at my condition and hopefully be able to acknowledge some issues,"he said.
As for his complaint agiants the college and idivi;dual physicians is the first place, Lillico said he doesn't regret his decision.
"if i don't stand up for what i believe in, then what am I?" he said.
