Police Minister Carl Scully says the problem is difficult to deal with because current drug house legislation does not extend to cannabis.
He says he is concerned about the trend of South-East Asian drug syndicates getting families to mind cannabis crops.
"It is on the increase, particularly in south-western Sydney and in residential homes where they think they're doing it privately, behind and away from the eyes of law enforcement agencies," he said.
"The police are starting to catch some of these people, but they want to catch a lot more of them."
He also wants to crack down on electricity theft by hydroponic marijuana growers.

Heya Ferre,
I hadn't seen this story but how uncanny it was when I read it, check out my funny pictures .... heheh I live in the south west of Sydney, but where I'm from we just do it ourselves. If laws were not so tight on homegrowers I believe this practise would stop.
