The Trimbos institute in the Netherlands is a government funded organisation that gets paid to conduct research in order to give a negative image to Cannabis.
Since the Christian Democrats (CDA) are in charge of the Dutch government they have been pushing the institute to bring out severeal "results" of "research" that "proves" brain damage, depressions and now they come with another "report" to scare people for the use of Cannabis.
You have to know that the Trimbos institute is a government funded institution that conducts research with the only purpose of reporting negative news on Cannabis.
Here is their latest press release:

Cannabis 'linked to aggression'
Smoking cannabis is strongly associated with delinquent and aggressive behaviour in young teenagers, a major study has found.
Researchers in the Netherlands revealed the link after surveying more than 5,500 adolescents aged 12 to 16.
The results showed that "externalising" problem behaviour, such as criminality and aggression, increased with higher use of cannabis. No similar association was found with "internalising" problems of withdrawal and depression.
The scientists, led by Ms Karin Monshouwer, from the Trimbos Institute in Utrecht, accounted for confounding influences including social background, regular smoking and alcohol consumption.
They wrote in the British Journal of Psychiatry: "This study shows that at young ages the use of cannabis is already strongly associated with delinquent and aggressive behaviour, even after controlling for strong confounders such as alcohol use and smoking.
"The strength of the associations increased with higher frequency of use, and significant associations were only present among those who had used cannabis recently."
Cannabis users who had not taken the drug in the preceding year did not show any more signs of delinquency than teenagers who had never smoked a . "Heavy" cannabis use was also associated with thought and attention problems.
Marjorie Wallace, chief executive of the mental health charity Sane, said: "In the past, it has been claimed that cannabis is of less concern than it might be because it can make people withdrawn rather than aggressive.
"Some recent studies, however, have been linking aggressive behaviour with heavy use of cannabis, particularly among young people.
"Aggression can worsen the symptoms and outcomes of those who may be developing mental illness."

Now have a close look at the "wording" of this report. They use the word "LINKED TO" and do not use the words "Direct relation"
This is done on purpose. "linked to" means that there is NO PROVE WHATSOEVER but it looks scary now doesn't it?
IF they had found any evidence of cannabis causing agression, they would have worded it as: there is a direct relation between cannabis use and agression. In science, a direct relation means that cannabis use has a direct relation with agressive behaviour.
They use the words "linked to" with a reason, for not being accused of sending out false information by other scientists.
This report, as most of Trimbos reports, is nothing more than scare tactics based on NO EVIDENCE whatsoever.
Below is another article on this same subject, but from a news agency that is a little more reserved with how they bring the news...

Study: Link between marijuana, aggression
AMSTERDAM, Netherlands, Feb. 1 (UPI) -- A Dutch study on the effects of marijuana use on teenagers suggests a connection with aggressive behavior.
The BBC reports researchers at the Trimbos Institute in the Netherlands found 17 percent of the 5,551 12 to 16-year-olds questioned had used marijuana within the past year. The study found the higher the frequency and amount of marijuana use, the more aggressive behavior the teenager showed.
A recent study by the British Journal of Psychiatry found similar results.
A 2005 report by the Schools Health Education Unit in Britain found 25 percent of 14- and 15-year-olds smoked pot.
The studies found no evidence backing up claims made in past research linking marijuana use to emotional problems like depression.
Harald Wychgel, author of the Dutch study, said aggressive behavior and poor school grades are exacerbated in countries with more stringent drug laws.
Marijuana is regulated but not illegal in the Netherlands.
Paul Corry, spokesman for Rethink, a mental health group, said there isn't enough data to know whether marijuana leads to aggression, or if kids living in environments that promote aggression are more prone to smoke marijuana.

"Suggest a connection"??? WHAT PROVE IS THAT!!!???
There is a massive campaign to discredit Cannabis with quasi-scientific reports and I'm afraid that many people believe this crap. _________________ █ Please read the Board Rules and Posting, and you
