Hello there,
Aloha. I recently heard of this case and this testimony; now we have it in writiing from the Practitioner himself. Enclosed is, in my opinion, a very important piece of history. See what you think and then let us know where this story should go for maximum benefit. Mahalo.
All the best to you,
Roger

2003: I got turned-on to the THC Ministry out of Hawaii after a couple near my home had there charges of growing herb dropped. I talked with Roger Christie for quite some time and found we share similar beliefs. In additon, I completely saw the relevance on how his mission directly influenced me. Being that this country is founded upon the principle of Religious freedom, I joined the ministry a short time after our conversation. I have never separated myself from my Ministry ID card since.
2004: I was hanging out with a friend of mine, in his truck, on another rainy Washington day. We were smoking it up for quite sometime and apparently an informant called the police on us. It was my toke and out of the corner of my eye I saw the tell-tale spotlight of a patrol car. "Shit," I thought, "I'm going to jail. Don't even try and run dude, just take your one last toke and hold it till you choke."
Of course the officer had already called for backup, but seen as backup had yet to arrive he aproached the passenger side window. My "buddy" rolled it down and I couldn't help it, I just exploded into a coughing fit as clouds (literally) billowed out of the ride. The officer let the smoke disapate for a second and said, with a chuckle, "what in the hell do we got going on here?" My "friend" offers up his jar and pipe and says "its all right here officer, we don't have anything else" (I had an Oz on me) - I remained silent. The cop starts to bust-out his Miranda card, at this point i'm like "oh shit, here we go." I produce to him my Ministry ID card: "Officer, I would just like to inform you that we are here sharing a sacrement. Sir, I just want you to know we are not criminals, this is a spiritual congress for me and I am sharing this moment with my friend." Well my "friend" who I have known since I was 12 says, "I have no clue what he is talking about officer, I have nothing to do with that, I don't even know this guy, I just picked him up." Talk about jumping ship, well at this point backup arrived. The officer takes my card and goes back to the car with our ID's. My bud had a record so they took him out of the truck and searched him. In the meantime the intial officer called Roger Christie and thank goodness he was by the phone. He explained to them the legitimacy of my beliefs along with its backing by Constitutional rights. Well that seemed to take the motivation out of the officers on hand and they both agreed that they were going to let us get out of there as long as we didn't drive away. We collected our ID's, said thank-yous and beat our feet.

2005: I have been in the United States Army at this point for 5 years. The transportation company I was in was getting ready to mobilize to Iraq. My military occupational specialty was truck driving (88m). I had a record of excellence amassed through letters of comendation, leadership positions, and consistent maxed out PT (physical training) scores. I had never stopped smoking my sacrement however as I understood its consequences and stood firm in my beliefs.
Part of mobilization in a combat support role is a drug test. I gave up that cup of piss with mixed feelings of relief with anxiety as to the results. Two weeks went by and sure enough I got a call from my recruiter. He says: "You know why I'm calling you?" I replied, "Yes I do, Sergeant." We lined up a meeting for that weekend with he, my CO (comanding officer) and me. My CO says to me, "We got the results of the UA back and you pissed hot for Marijuana" "Yes sir, I smoke herb religiously and I will not stop as it is mandated by my religion."
They informed me that under the UCMJ, Uniform Code of Military Justice, I was unsuitable to be a soldier. I could however take the option of "being flagged" which means; no promotions, drug/alcohol counseling, and being the unit asswipe. I declined the option, reassuring them I would not put my religious beliefs to the side. They had me write a statement in which I expounded upon the many instances in which cannabis appears in the Bible. Later in the week I received a call from my CO and he informed me he had signed-off on paperwork to release me with an honorable discharge.

Ahh, this is great! I say we tell the whole world as best we can. What about a major press release distributed through the various ministries to the local papers that not only outlines this, but all of the THC Ministry successes. _________________ -Brother Adam (we are all one family)

Police officers acquitted for beating a 64 yr old man recently in New Orleans. In the words of their defense attorney "all he had to do was comply"....and they wouldn't have fractured his face. |
