"Estimates suggest that from 20 to 50 million Americans routinely, albeit illegally, smoke marijuana without the benefit of direct medical supervision. Yet, despite this long history of use and the extraordinarily high numbers of social smokers, there are simply no credible reports to suggest that consuming marijuana has caused a single death. By contrast, aspirin, a commonly used, over-the-counter medicine, causes hundreds of deaths each year."

Bill Mixing Marijuana, Methamphetamine Advances By Matt Volz

The Alaska Senate on Thursday passed a bill that would give Gov. Frank Murkowski ammunition as he tries to overturn a 31-year-old court precedent allowing marijuana in the home for personal use. The Senate Finance Committee inserted the provisions of Murkowski's marijuana bill, which the governor has called must-pass legislation, into another piece of legislation meant to curb home laboratory production of methamphetamine.

Senate Passes Marijuana, Methamphetamine Bill

The Alaska Senate today passed a bill to toughen penalties for marijuana possession and to make it more difficult to purchase the ingredients used to manufacture methamphetamine.
The bill, which the Senate Finance Committee created from two separate bills, passed 17-to-1. It would make possession of more than 4 ounces of marijuana a felony. Possession of less than 4 ounces, now allowed in the home thanks to a 1975 court ruling, would become a misdemeanor.

Alaska Appeals Court Legalizes Simple Marijuana Possession
U.S. STATE LAW: Alaska
Alaska Supreme Court and lower courts have ruled that personal possession of cannabis is protected by state constitution's privacy clause. As recently as Sep 14, 2004, the AK Supreme Court refused to overturn a unanimous Appellate Court decision that police were not allowed to enter a home simply based on smelling cannabis smoke outside. "The Constitution of the United States, for instance, is a marvelous document for self-government by the Christian people. But the minute you turn the document into the hands of non-Christian people and atheistic people they can use it to destroy the very foundation of our society. And that's what's been happening."

AK: Lawmakers Merge Marijuana, Meth Bills
Changes Approved To Marijuana-Meth Bill By Anne Sutton
Associated Press January 18, 2006 Juneau, Alaska
Despite protests from Democrats, the Alaska Senate agreed Wednesday to merge the recriminalization of marijuana with restrictions on the sale of over-the-counter drugs used to make methamphetamine. The Senate Finance Committee last week combined the two pieces of legislation, saying the result was a more efficient vehicle for the governor's must-pass bills.

ACTION ALERT: Meth Bill Outlaws Any Drug Speech
it is a mandate so broad that it criminalizes any published speech about illegal drugs, even if that speech is aimed at reducing the harms associated with drug use. For example, the bill would apply to information about safe dosage levels of illegal drugs and which combinations of drugs pose dangers. It would apply to explanations about how to use marijuana for medicinal purposes.

Conservative Addiction Good! Liberal Addiction Bad!
Ok so this Murkowski wants to protect kids by penalizing pot tokers? Taking their parents to prison is better for them? Snitching on siblings, orphaned, then the homes forfeitured, Murkowski knows best about the 3000 kids sodomized in juvi prison. Deterrent Murkowski ? While the kids at Yucca Flats get radiated by his legislation and the Exxon Valdeze gets a reprieve paying itself to spread crude cleaning solvents, Murkowski exporting more crude from Alaskan Bays. But what about ANWR? Why export what we supposedly need so badly? Killing Grizzly to protect Bush Bullwinkle Safari's. Wipe out the wolves for the same lame reasons. Selling out Alaska with hype and fascism.

Economics: Energy, Environment and Commerce
In the early 1900s, Henry Ford and other futuristic, organic, engineering geniuses recognized (as their intellectual, scientific heirs still do today) an important point - that up to 90 percent of all fossil fuel used inthe world today (coal, oil, natural gas, etc.) should long ago have been replaced with biomass such as: cornstalks, cannabis, waste paper and the like.
Biomass can be converted to methane, methanol or gasoline at a fraction of the current cost of oil, coal, or nuclear energy - especially when environmental costs are factored in - and its mandated use would end acid rain, end sulfur-based smog, and reverse the Greenhouse Effect on our planet - right now!*

Nuke industry gave $18,000 to Murkowski
February 11, 2000 WASHINGTON (AP)
Sen. Frank Murkowski, R-Alaska, the chief sponsor of a Senate bill that allows for shipment of nuclear waste to Nevada, received $18,013 from the nuclear power industry in 1999, an analysis shows. Sens. Richard Bryan and Harry Reid, both D-Nev., received no money from nuclear power plant operators or their lobbyists. The campaign money data was provided by the Center for Responsive Politics, which tracks campaign contributions, and analyzed by Public Citizen, a liberal citizens advocate group. The study revealed the nuclear industry handed about $475,000 to 48 senators last year.
Frank Murkowski is another GOP hack
He would also be of little use in an ARP-sympathetic coalition in the Senate.
Again as with Stevens, I recommend that we fight for a strong flag-planting effort

Atomic waste bill fixed for Senate vote By Tony Batt Donrey
February 08, 2000 Washington Bureau ( Las Vegas Review-Journal)
A sponsor is striving to salvage a measure that Nevada lawmakers hope will sustain a Clinton veto. -- As Nevada lawmakers appeared poised to muster enough votes to sustain a presidential veto, the sponsor of a nuclear waste bill revived talks late Monday in a last-ditch effort to salvage a compromise. Sen. Frank Murkowski, R-Alaska, chairman of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, met with Sen. Jeff Bingaman, D-N.M., the panel's leading Democrat, apparently to discuss possible changes in Murkowski's bill.

TEN YEARS AFTER SPILL; STILL SHORT ON ANSWERS By FRANK MURKOWSKI
We are 10 years older, but are we 10 years smarter since the Exxon Valdez oil spill? With today's anniversary of the nation's worst oil disaster, the question most asked by the national media is how the wildlife of Alaska has fared?

HICKEL - FRAMPTON DEAL TO FEDERALIZE PRIVATE NATIVE LAND
How did it come about that the Exxon Valdez Oil Spill Trustees spent over half of the EVOS endowment buying land with out any authorizing legislation to do so? Here is how former Alaska Governor Walter Hickel (Alaskan Independence Party, former Republican) did a deal with George Frampton to get $28 million in bail out money for the Seward (Alaska) Sea Life Center. $500 million then was spent to move private land back to federal ownership in a state that already is almost 90% government owned!
