Peace Prize Winner: AIDS Is a Bioweapon

AIDS created in Western labs, Nobel laureate says Peace Prize recipient alleges conspiracy

Tuesday, October 12, 2004
A Canadian AIDS group said yesterday it is unfortunate that the winner of the Nobel Peace Price, Kenyan environmentalist Wangari Maathai, had depicted the deadly virus as a biological weapon invented by the West to wipe out Africans.

After accepting her Nobel, Ms. Maathai repeated a conspiracy theory on the weekend that is not uncommon in Africa: that AIDS was produced in a Western laboratory as part of a plot against blacks. She made similar allegations in August.

"Yes, I've heard that before, I've heard people claiming that," said Michael O'Connor of the Ottawa-based Interagency Coalition for AIDS and Development. "It's not widely held scientifically, and it's certainly not helpful to the debate about addressing this."

Ms. Maathai kicked off her reign as the first African woman to become a Nobel laureate by telling reporters AIDS did not originate in monkeys, as some believe, but may instead have been "created by a scientist for biological warfare."

In August, she caused a furor in Kenya when she was quoted in the East African Standard as calling AIDS a biological weapon devised to destroy black people.

"AIDS is not a curse from God to Africans or the black people. It is a tool to control them designed by some evil-minded scientists," she said.

In an interview with Time magazine published this week, she said she had "no idea who created AIDS and whether it is a biological agent or not. But I do know things like that don't come from the moon. I have always thought that it is important to tell people the truth, but I guess there is some truth that must not be too exposed."

Asked to elaborate, she responded: "I'm referring to AIDS. I am sure people know where it came from. And I'm quite sure it did not come from the monkeys.

That whole mentallity of pigeon-holing whole groups into 'these people are worth it..these people are not' has been the source of most of the evil on the planet...
Mostly based on fear.

If you put people into the 'not worth it' category you find it very easy to see them in the same status as cockroaches. It's easy to kill cockroaches...

It's too bad some people have so little regard for their fellow humans.....

I think our job is to never allow this kind of thing to be trivialized.

I'm glad this forum is filled with people of conscience...
