An organized crime operation that's produced high-quality marijuana since 1997 at a 100-acre upstate farm, a Bayside house and a Brooklyn warehouse that had hydroponic troughs illuminated by $800,000 in stolen electricity has been shut down, federal officials said Thursday.

The sophisticated operation harvested only the most potent buds from the plants, officials said. Overall, more than a ton of marijuana and $3 million in cash was seized in closing the operation, U.S. Attorney Roslynn Mauskopf said.

I always think that those "criminals" could be respected farmers instead who pay for their electricity and pay taxes as anyone else if only cannabis was legal.

Yep, that in fact is the only reason for stealing electricity for growing cannabis that I ever heard of.

Maybe I'm wrong, but these large operations are equivilant to sweat shops. The alleged owner of the operation is in prison for kidnapping. These are the type of people that I avoid.

i agree and was thinkin with 3 mill cash + 1 ton y a kidnapping maybe they were being blackmailed

not that it excuses it just a thought thats what makes prohibition so dangerous it gives the opportunity to turn nonviolent good people into slaves of the unsavory criminal element
